Ashtar Ausaf Ali resigns as Attorney General for Pakistan


ISLAMABAD, Oct 12 (SABAH): Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Ashtar Ausaf Ali has resigned from his post on Wednesday.

According to sources, the AGP Ashtar Ausaf Ali has submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, however, he has been asked to continue working till a replacement is appointed. The sources said that AGP Ali has resigned due to health reasons.

It is worth mentioning here that Ashtar Ausaf Ali was appointed as AGP in May this year by the federal government. Prior to this Ashtar Ausaf Ali remained special assistant to the PM on Law and Justice from 2015 to 2016. He was also appointed AGP in 2016 by former prime minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. He had served as AGP till 2018. Ashtar Ausaf Ali has also served twice as Advocate General of Punjab from 1998 to 1999 and 2012 to 2013. He also served as prosecutor general Punjab from 2011 to 2012.
