Robberies at ATM machines denting people confidence in bank: SC


ISLAMABAD, Oct 04 (SABAH): Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday said that due to robberies at ATM machines, people were losing confidence in banks.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Ijazul Ahsan rejected bail of an accused Tauseef Abbas for stealing money from an ATM machine.  The Supreme Court directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to investigate this matter in-depth. FIA had caught accused Tauseef Abbas while stealing money from an ATM machine.

Justice Ijazul Ahsan remarked that robberies occurring at ATM machines ruined all the banking system and the masses were losing their confidence in the banks. He directed the FIA to investigate the matter in a proper way.

Deputy Attorney General told the court that the accused was caught from the crime scene and a recovery of 34,000 was made from him.

Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi asked why the investigation couldn’t be completed despite the passage of 11 months. To this the investigation officer told the court that they had submitted challan after completing the investigation. The court expressed its displeasure over the belated arrival of the investigation officer. To this the investigation officer apologized.
