Decision of appointing next army chief to be made by PM Shehbaz according to Constitution: Maulana Fazl

MULTAN, Oct 03 (SABAH): Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Chief and Ameer Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Monday said that Constitution was to be observed on the matter of extension of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and it will be done in the light of Constitution.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed these views while addressing a press conference alongside Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former prime minister Senator Makhdoom Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani in Multan.

He said that all the political parties admitted that there were flaws in the Transgender Act and added that they had submitted amendments in this regard but they are not bringing reforms in the bill through the use of guns.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that after a long struggle, people were able to get rid of former prime minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, and the aftershocks that the nation is feeling are because of his removal. He said that the people should join hands and help the government in holding this anarchist accountable. “We should not be giving him importance,” the PDM chief added.

He further said that Imran Khan was not worthy of dialogue as he terms the incumbent government imported one.

On the appointment of the next army chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that it will be the decision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the light of the Constitution. “Who is Imran Khan to give us advice?” he questioned.

Addressing the press conference, Yousaf Raza Gillani said that the process of appointing the COAS is simple but PTI has complicated this matter. Imran Khan does not need to worry about this matter, the ex-premier added.

“Imran Khan should not be speaking about the appointment in his rallies and who is he even to speak about it in the first place?” he questioned. Talking about the foreign funding case, Yousaf Raza Gillani said that the PTI chairman had hidden several assets from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The one who had been calling everyone a thief should reflect on his own deeds,” Gillani added.
