PM Shehbaz reaffirms his strong resolve to further deepen & broaden cooperation with Azerbaijan in diverse areas


ISLAMABAD, Sep 07 (SABAH): Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held telephonic conversation with Ilham Heydar Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan on Wednesday.

During the call, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude for the generous assistance extended by Azerbaijan to the flood affected people of Pakistan.

Acknowledging the donation of US$ 2 Million from Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister shared that Pakistan had been battling one of the most severe cycles of torrential monsoon weather, which had resulted in loss of lives, livelihood and extensive damage to the infrastructure. As a result, the delivery of assistance and relocation of flood affected people was severely limited.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed his strong resolve to further deepen and broaden its cooperation with Azerbaijan in diverse areas including energy cooperation.

Pakistan and Azerbaijan support each other at international fora such as UN, OIC and ECO. Azerbaijan is an important member of OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir. The two peoples are linked by common faith, cultural affinities and rich historical ties.

Meanwhile PM Shehbaz Sharif has extended his congratulations to Liz Truss on her appointment as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. In a statement issued on twitter on Wednesday PM Shehbaz Sharif said that the UK is Pakistan’s time-tested friend and one of our largest trading and development partners. “I am keen to work with her to further promote our historic relations” PM Shehbaz Sharif said.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has paid rich tribute to the martyrs and ghazis of Pakistan Air Force for valiantly defending the aerial frontiers of the country.        

In a tweet on the occasion of Pakistan Air Force Day observed on Wednesday, PM Shehbaz Sharif said the whole nation is proud of the Air Force which has always proved that anyone having any wicked design against the motherland will face crushing defeat.

The Prime Minister said the nation is grateful to all martyrs of Pakistan Air Force including Squadron Leaders Sarfraz Rafiqi and Muneeruddin, Flight Lieutenant Younis Hussain and Flying Officer Mohammad Afzal  who sacrificed their lives to foil the nefarious ambitions of a four times larger enemy.
