Pakistan desirous of long-term & sustainable relations with the US: Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani


ISLAMABAD, Sep 04 (SABAH): The United States has reaffirmed its support and solidarity with the government and people of Pakistan amidst the devastation caused by flash floods and rains in the country.

The support was extended during meeting of a US delegation with Chairman Senate Mir Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani in Islamabad on Sunday. The delegation comprised chairperson of Pakistani caucus in the US Congress Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Congressmen Al. Green and Thomas Suozzi and US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome.                                      

Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf, Deputy Chairman Senate Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Senator Muhammad Azam Khan Swati and Senator Dilawar Khan were also present in the meeting.                             

Expressing grief and sorrow over the loss of life and property during recent floods in the country, the delegation vowed to continue support to Pakistan in tackling natural calamities.                 

The delegation also commended the key role played by Pakistan for establishing peace and stability in the region.                                               

On the occasion, the Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani briefed the delegation about the current situation of floods in the country and expressed gratitude for the United States’ support to Pakistan during this difficult time. He termed the support of USAID for flood affected people in Pakistan, crucial.                                  

Underling the importance of the delegation’s visit in deepening Pak-US ties, Sadiq Sanjrani said Pakistan is desirous of long-term and sustainable relations with the United States.                 

He emphasized the need for strengthening Pak-US trade and economic relations. The Chairman Senate said bilateral cooperation is inevitable to address problems related to health, security, counter-terrorism and climate change.
