Liaqat Baloch calls for transparent distribution of govt aid among the flood-affected people


LAHORE, Sep 02 (SABAH): Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Acting Emir Liaqat Baloch has called for transparent distribution of government aid among the flood-affected people, demanding action over reports of mismanagement and corruption.

Addressing press conference at Mansoorah on Friday, Liaqat Baloch also highlighted the issue of lack of coordination in relief work at government level. “There is a dire need to prepare national action plan and effective network for relief services comprising federal, provincial and district government and other stakeholder institutions.”

In presence of the well-connected network dedicated to cope with the natural disasters, he said, the administrative expenditures could be saved, ensuring quick services to the affectees. The JI acting chief asked rulers to keep politics away from relief work.

Liaqat Baloch where thanked the international community for aid he also appealed for adaptation of Madina Model of Brotherhood at national level. He said floods affected 35 million people but Allah Almighty saved 185 million from the calamity and it was test and challenge for the latter that how they reached to their brothers and sisters in need. Appreciating the overall response of the nation in helping the affectees, he called for more efforts and aids for the helpless. He particularly thanked the nation for donations to al-Khidmat Foundation which, he added, was engaged in full-fledged relief operation with so far collection of Rs six billion funds.

JI vice-emir Dr. Farid Ahmed Paracha questioned the non-implementation of Flood Inquiry Commission 2010 report and also called for constitution of another Judicial Commission to pinpoint the mismanagement and corruption during ongoing floods. He said the proposed commission should identify the people who occupied the dedicated paths for water flows in Sindh, Balochistan, southern Punjab and KP. The commission, he said, should also identify the buildings and infrastructure built in violation of laws.
