Missing Persons Commission should be dissolved: Amina Masood Janjua

ISLAMABAD, July 08 (SABAH): Defense of Human Rights Pakistan (DHR) Chairperson Amina Masood Janjua has stated that since long they have been appealing to dissolve the Missing Persons Commission as we do not like its conduct.

Amina Masood Janjua expressed these views in an interview with a private TV channel on Friday. She said serious allegations have been leveled against the head of Commission, adding Tayyaba Guls incident revealed that he was well-connected as no one was taking action against him. She even submitted an application with the Supreme Court of Pakistan but it didn’t take any action against him.

Now that Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal is not serving as head of NAB and the government has also changed, as soon as she spoke about the matter, prompt action was taken, she said, adding to this, she is very thankful. She maintained the Chairman Public Account Committee Noor Alam Khan took notice of the matter and worked seriously on it; however, they don’t want the misuse of power against anyone.

During the hearing regarding missing persons, she said when Commission’s head Justice (Retd) Javed Iqabl used to ask a female applicant: “Visit my chamber. Let us take tea,” and when she refused, this made him angry.

Amina Masood Januja said that she assured Chairman PAC Noor Alam Khan to provide any proof he will ask for as she may appear along with all the witnesses if and when needed; however, she will not force any affected female to come forward against the ex-chairman of accountability watchdog.

Amina Masood Janjua said she don’t want to prove anything against the former chairman; however, she just wants to inform the government of his track record as the females don’t level such ‘baseless and  fabricated’ allegations against anyone. She said that pitiable people should not be handed over to such people, adding since long they have been demanding to dissolve this Commission besides removal of its head but no one heeded to our demand.

From the instance of Tayyaba Gul, it transpired that they cannot prove anything against Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal; however, they are satisfied as they are being listened and relied. She said this proves that those hapless women who were compelled to come out of their homes are true in leveling all the allegations which must come to an end.

She thanked Noor Alam Khan for taking up the issue, and prayed for him that may Almighty Allah grant him courage and vigor to conclude the matter. In the same way, she expressed her wishes for Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to stay adhered to his commitment and should remove Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal from his position.
