NEPRA approves increase in electricity for K-Electric customers by Rs9.66 per unit in form of May’s fuel adjustment

ISLAMABAD, July 04 (SABAH): The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Monday approved increase in electricity for K-Electric customers by Rs9.66 per unit in form of May’s fuel adjustment. The increase made in the electricity prices will be collected in bills of August.

The increase in electricity prices has been made in the context of May’s monthly fuel adjustment. According to K-Electric officials, the company has a financial burden of Rs380 billion. K-Electric had requested the increase of Rs 11.34 per unit in form of monthly fuel adjustment of May.

NEPRA is expected to issue a detailed decision after reviewing the data.

Commenting on the matter, chairman NEPRA said that if the company was experiencing difficulties in providing cheap electricity then it may seek the electricity regulatory authority’s help. “We are ready to talk to the federal and provincial governments for cheap electricity,” he added.

NEPRA after holding the hearing on the plea of K-electric permitted increase of Rs 9.66 per unit in form of May’s fuel adjustment. NEPRA has completed hearing on the petition of K-electric and it will issue the written order and notification soon.

It may be noted that on June 25, NEPRA approved an increase of Rs5.27 per unit in the electricity tariff of K-Electric on account of the fuel cost adjustment for April 2022.
