Earthquake tremors of 5.0-magnitude felt in Islamabad, parts of Punjab & KP


ISLAMABAD, June 17 (SABAH): Earthquake tremors of 5.0-magnitude were felt in Islamabad and parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department said the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 5.0, originated at 2:22pm. Its epicentre was in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region, and it had a depth of 220 kilometres, the Met Office said.

In addition to the federal capital, tremors were felt in Rawalpindi, Murree, Peshawar, Charsadda, Abbottabad, Diamer, Faisalabad, Multan, jalalpur Bhatian, Mansehra, Balakot, Chilas. Swat, Buner, Kohat, Malakand, Kotli, Swabi, Mansehra, Battagram, Kohistan and Torghar.

The tremors were felt intermittently and citizens stepped outside from their houses and offices soon after the tremors began and started reciting the verses of the Holy Quran. There were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage to property.
