Pakistan’s first NTiny-E chip launched

ISLAMABAD, June 13 (SABAH): Pakistan’s first NTiny-E chip has been launched. Project head Dr. Rehman Ahmed has said that first microprocessor has been made.

According to a media report, first NTiny-E chip has been launched in National University of Science and Technology (NUST). The project has been completed in four years under the chairmanship of Director NUST Dr. Rehan Ahmed.

Pro-Rector Research Innovation and Commercialization Dr. Rizwan Ahmed told that during the ensuring year the NUST has made first chip, adding that it is a big success for Pakistan and NUST. He said that now Pakistan has been included in the list of the countries where this processor is prepared. He said that semi conductor industry is of hundreds of billion dollars.

Dr. Rizwan said that this kind of projects are very important for developing countries like Pakistan, adding that if Pakistan will be self-reliant in preparation of the chip then security issues could be resolved. He said that NUST is the top university of Pakistan, adding that we have been able to include NUST in 300 best universities of the world in 30 years limited time. He said that only through merit, education and focusing on the research we have brought the university at this position. Dr. Rizwan said that we have designed the chip design center in the university, which will be made active soon, adding that we will use the chip in many other projects and will do more work for the improvement of the chip.

NTiny Project Head Dr. Rehan Ahmed said that first microprocessor was prepared in the project, adding that there is hard work of the students behind the preparation of the chip, adding that in this project whole echo system of the chip has been developed. He said that our focus is on physics, adding that becoming functional of this chip is proof of our hard work. He said that the people of the industry were invited and they visited to see the chip, adding that whatever kind of chips set is needed to the government and if funding is provided we will provide it after preparing it. He said that NUST is funded project and it has been completed in Rs 5 million. He said that eight to 10 students team worked to make this project.

Dr. Ajmal informed that the chip was prepared in Taiwan but the work was done in NUST. He said that Taiwan makes 55 percent chips but excellent human resource is present in Pakistan. He said that best students of the country are present in NUST, adding that our students are biggest investment, adding that one year ago the design of the chip was completed. He said that the big companies like Apple spend $1 billion on chips. He said that NUST is the only university of Pakistan which is linked with IBM, Google and now it is going to link with Amazon.
