CJ PHC Qaiser Rashid Khan grants pre-arrest bail to Imran Khan till 25th June
PESHAWAR, June 02 (SABAH): The Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan on Thursday granted pre-arrest bail for three-weeks to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The court granted bail to Imran Khan till 25th June.
PTI supremo had approached the PHC, seeking pre-arrest bail in 14 separate cases registered in connection with PTI’s May 25 long march and filed a plea through his counsel advocate Babar Awan.
The petition was heard by the Chief Justice PHC, the Chief Justice said that the pre-arrest bail granted to Imran Khan against Rs 50,000 surety bonds for three-weeks.
The court also directed Imran Khan not to address in the court premises while Imran Khan assured the court that he would follow the order.
The former prime minister reached out to the PHC for protection against his possible arrest in case he marches to Islamabad again. PHC Chief Justice Qaiser Rasheed accepted the plea. Imran had appeared in court to file his plea in a personal capacity.
However, media representatives and reporters were barred from attending the hearing as the court’s doors were closed when Imran arrived.
The PTI filed a petition in the apex court on Wednesday seeking permission for a second long march to Islamabad.
The party chairman had abruptly announced the end of his “Azadi March” on May 26 and had given the government a six-day ultimatum to announce a date for a general election. He had later said he called the march off due to fear of bloodshed.
The petition argued that the court should order that PTI be allowed to hold peaceful protests and gatherings in Islamabad and that no obstacles should be put in the way of PTI protests in any city.
