Heirs should be briefed in govt committee formed after historic judgment of IHC: Amina Masood Janjua
ISLAMABAD, June 01 (SABAH): Defense of Human Rights Pakistan (DHR) Chairperson Amina Masood Janjua has demanded that the representatives of the heirs should be briefed in the government committee formed after the historic judgment of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) regarding the forcedly disappeared persons. She said that if the government implements court verdict in its letter and spirit then the longstanding missing persons issue could be resolved.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Amina Masood Janjua said that government should include the representatives of the heirs and human rights workers in the consultation process, adding that prior to initiating final steps, the views and advice of the heirs should be considered. She said that if the government implements the court verdict in responsible and fair manner then this verdict could become milestone in the history of the country and issue of forcedly disappeared persons could be resolved.
Amina Masood Janjua said that Chief Justice IHC Justice Athar Minallah has delivered brave and historic verdict, which should be fully appreciated. She said that the court has issued directions to federal government in clear words to issue notices to Parvez Musharraf and all the prime ministers till date, who served after Parvez Musharraf. She said that Attorney General for Pakistan has been given the last chance to produce the missing persons or present the reasons for the failure of the state. She said that the court has also sought explanation that why the national security was put at danger through unannounced policy of forced disappearances? Amina Masood Janjua said that the government has been given clear orders that being amicus curiae my suggestions should also be considered and report should be presented.
