LAHORE, Nov 16 (SABAH): Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Sirajul Haq has said a peaceful democratic movement to get rid of the corrupt system responsible for the plight of masses is the need of hour.

In a statement issued from Mansoora on Tuesday, Sirajul Haq said the majority of those who were sitting in assemblies were feudal lords and protectors of corrupt capitalism. “The prevailing system suits them [feudal, waderas] and they resist the change,” he said, adding the ruling elite was actually fighting for their self-interests in the name of democracy and public.

There was no difference among the PTI, the PDM and the PPP, he added. The JI chief rejected the PTI proposed agenda of electoral reforms and said that the consensus of political parties from across the political divide was necessary to hold free and fair polls in future. He also warned that the electoral rigging in future would bring further crisis.

Sirajul Haq said the corruption plagued the country and the prime minister failed to take action against the corrupt elements. In-fact, he said, the loot and plunder of country’s resources witnessed rise in the PTI regime as mafias made billions of rupees by creating artificial shortages of food items, petrol and medicines. He said the Pandora Papers and Panama Leaks narrated the ruling elites’ horrible tales of corruption. He said those who looted money and stashed in shell companies were never held accountable by any governments and courts in past. He said what would be the more regrettable fact than that the poor Pakistanis were sending their money in the country from abroad and the rulers were stashing their wealth in foreign companies.

As the Islami Jamiat Talba is holding student rights convention in Islamabad today (Wednesday), Sirajul Haq welcomed the move against the anti-education policies of the government. He said the different governments including the PTI’s had not lifted ban on student union despite promises, depriving the democratic and constitutional rights of the educated youth. The government, he demanded, must listen to the student’s demands.
