President Alvi approves appointment of Muhammad Balighur Rehman as Governor Punjab

ISLAMABAD, May 30 (SABAH): President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, has approved the appointment of Engineer Mian Muhammad Balighur Rehman as the Governor Punjab.

President Dr. Arif Alvi gave the approval on the advice of the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in terms of Article 48 (1) read with Article 101 (1) and Article 101 (5) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

It is worth mentioning here that former prime minister Imran Khan had sacked Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar as government Punjab for not supporting the PTI-backed Chaudhry Parvaiz Elahi as chief minister Punjab candidate and had appointed Umar Sarfaraz Cheeman; however after the success of the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan in National Assembly, PM Shehbaz Sharif had sent advice to President Dr. Arif Alvi for the removal of Umar Sarfaraz Cheema as governor Punjab but president had rejected the summary. Later on after completion of 15 days of the summary, PM Shehbaz Sharif had sent the second summary and after completion of 10 days the Cabinet Division had issued notification of removal of Umar Sarfaraz Cheeman as Governor Punjab.

After this PM Shehbaz Sharif had sent the summary of Engineer Mian Balighur Rehman as Governor Punjab but President Alvi had rejected the summary saying Umar Sarfaraz Cheema is still working as governor Punjab; however after this Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had resent the summary for the appointment of Balighur Rehman as government. According to legal experts Balighur Rehman’s appointment notification would have been issued automatically after completion of 10 days of the second summary of the prime minister.

However; surprisingly President Dr. Arif Alvi has approved the summary for the appointment of Engineer Mian Balighur Rehman as Governor Punjab on Monday.
