Challenge of climate change is getting grave with every passing day: PM Shehbaz
ISLAMABAD, April 26 (SABAH): Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed to constitute a committee for finalizing policy guidelines regarding carbon credits to address the surging issue of climate change.
PM Shehbaz Sharif was chairing the third meeting of Pakistan Council on Climate Change in Islamabad on Friday. The Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Climate Change to take the provinces and all stakeholders into confidence for this important policy draft and present the draft of policy in the next meeting.
Appreciating the improvement in the measures regarding carbon credits across the country, he underscored the need to expedite these efforts.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan is among the countries which are most vulnerable to the drastic effects of climate change and the 2022 floods bear testimony to it.
He said the challenge of climate change is getting grave with every passing day and the federal and provincial governments have to work together to formulate a policy regarding climate change.
The meeting discussed in detail the policy guidelines for trading in carbon credits.
The Chief Ministers of four provinces shared their views and presented suggestions in this regard.
