Although there weren’t any lawsuits against Hamid Mir, yet he couldn’t host a TV program: Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan
ISLAMABAD, Feb 14 (SABAH): Emir Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan has said that the current government has bad record of imposing restrictions and censoring media channels. Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan said that there should be no restriction on media. He added that although there weren’t any lawsuits against Hamid Mir, yet he couldn’t host a TV program.
Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan asked the government to give relief to the students of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Multan and refrain from playing with their futures. He also pleaded that the government should alleviate frustration in Balochistan, a province replete with natural resources.
Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan expressed these views during the Senate session on Monday. He was of the opinion that KP produces 5000 megawatt cheap hydroelectric power; whereas the federation was not giving the province only 1500 megawatt sufficient to meet all power requirements. “Marble sector, CNG, steel sectors, flour mills and small industries are getting destroyed”, the Emir JI KP added. He noted that extortion was being received on the name of fuel price adjustment; while he hailed the move of transferring the matter of fuel price adjustment to a committee. He raised concern on collection of fuel price adjustment tax from the KP people where electricity was not generated from petroleum products.
Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan added that FPA was destroying industries of the KP province and asked that the money collected from KP citizens on the pretext of Fuel Price Adjustment be paid back. He added that 14000 law students of BZU took their 1st year examinations in 2018 and the university was not undertaking exams for 2nd and 3rd years. He noted that Peshawar High Court had given verdict in favor of students; yet the university was determined to play with the futures of students. The senator asked that the government should take notice of the university so that students’ future could be saved. The senator emphasized that JI believed in liberation of journalism and it would keep on playing its role for media freedom, adding that we will continue playing role for the freedom of media. He questioned why Member National Assembly Ali Wazir is present in jail?
