Shazia Marri visits Benazir Nashonuma Center in Rural Health Center Jam Nawaz Ali, Sindh

ISLAMABAD/SANGHAR July 31 (SABAH): Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Ms. Shazia Atta Marri on Monday visited the Benazir Nashonuma Center established at Rural Health Center Jam Nawaz Ali, Sindh province along with representative of World Bank and World Food Programme.

Shazia Marri, while talking to the media, said that Pakistan People’s Party has always started initiatives and programmes for the welfare of the poor people. With the technical support of the World Bank and World Food Program, the Benazir Income Support Programme is providing Special Nutritious Food (SNF) to 770,000 pregnant, lactating women and infants registered in the Benazir Nashonuma Programme to address malnutrition. This food is provided to women and children up to two years of age. For this, the initiative of Benazir Nahsonuma Centers has been increased from 15 districts to the entire countrs, and now 488 centers are operational in all 157 districts all over the country. The budget of Benazir Nashonuma Programme for the next fiscal year is more than 32 billion, which will benefit 1.5 million people, she added

On this occasion, the Federal Minister further stated that the current government has timely distributed Rs 70 billion to the flood victims and now we are working day and night for the rehabilitation of the flood victims and no negligence will be tolerated in this work. She said that whole country especially the provinces of Sindh and Baluchistan were worst affected by floods, last year, and we are aware of miseries of the flood affected families, I am also working with the Government of Sindh to rehabilitate these affected familes.

Ms. Shazia Marri said that a Dynamic Survey has been started for the registration of women living below the poverty line, and currently, 617 Dynamic Registry Centers are functioning in the country. She said that the present government has expanded Benazir Kafaalat Programme, and through it now Rs 8750 are being given to 9 million families on quarterly basis.

District Health Officer Dr. Faiz Muhammad Marri, Regional Director PPHI Fida Hussain Lashari and other officers were also present on this occasion.
